Owala FreeSip 32oz Review -- The Water Bottle That Made Me Actually Drink Water
Owala
⭐ Our Verdict
The Owala FreeSip converted me from a Hydro Flask loyalist. The dual-function sip/chug lid is not a gimmick -- I genuinely drink more water because it is easier. The straw is perfect for desk sipping, and the chug opening is perfect for the gym. At $28, it is also cheaper than both Hydro Flask and Stanley.
✅ Pros
- ✓Dual-function lid: sip through built-in straw OR chug from wide opening
- ✓Keeps water cold for 24 hours with triple-layer insulation
- ✓Push-button lid opens with one hand
- ✓Carry loop makes it easy to grab and go
- ✓BPA-free and dishwasher safe
⚠️ Cons
- ✗Straw can develop a slight plastic taste if not cleaned regularly
- ✗Lid mechanism has more parts to clean than Hydro Flask
- ✗Heavier than Hydro Flask at 1.4 lbs when full
- ✗Fewer color options than Hydro Flask
I have owned Hydro Flasks for years. They are great at keeping water cold, but the Wide Mouth lid requires two hands and careful aim to drink without spilling. The Owala FreeSip solves this with a genuinely clever dual-function lid.
The Genius Lid
The spout has TWO openings: a built-in straw for sipping (like a Stanley cup, but leak-proof when closed) and a wide chug opening above it. You drink from the same spout -- tilt for chug, sip normally for straw. The lid locks closed with a push button. After 3 months, I drink roughly twice as much water as I did with my Hydro Flask, purely because it is easier to take a sip without opening a screw-top lid.
Best Price I Found
$27.99 on Amazon. The 24oz is $22.99 if you want something more compact. The 40oz is $32.99.
