⭐ Our Verdict

Best ultralight backpack for serious thru-hikers. At 1.9 lbs, it saves 2-3 lbs vs traditional packs. Osprey packs are more comfortable for heavier loads. Hyperlite for ultralight philosophy.

✅ Pros

  • 1.9 lbs is half the weight of Osprey Atmos (4.5 lbs)
  • Dyneema fabric is waterproof and incredibly durable
  • 40L internal + 15L external pockets
  • Roll-top closure is fully waterproof
  • Made in Maine, USA

⚠️ Cons

  • $369 is twice the price of Osprey packs
  • No frame (some find it uncomfortable over 25 lbs)
  • Minimalist - no organization pockets inside
  • White fabric gets dirty immediately (character, right?)

The Hyperlite 2400 Southwest shaved 2.5 lbs off my pack weight (down from Osprey Atmos 65 at 4.5 lbs). On a 500-mile PCT section, that 2.5 lbs made a noticeable difference in daily fatigue. Dyneema fabric is waterproof - no rain cover needed.

Hyperlite vs Osprey

Hyperlite: 1.9 lbs, waterproof Dyneema, minimalist, $369. Osprey: 4.5 lbs, full frame, comfortable, $270. Thru-hikers counting ounces: Hyperlite. Weekend backpackers wanting comfort: Osprey.

Best Price

$369 on Amazon. Direct from Hyperlite website sometimes has blemished units at $300.
