How to Compare Products Like a Pro: Our 5-Point Scoring System
Amazon has 5-star reviews for products that break in a week. YouTube has "honest reviews" from creators who got the product for free. How do you actually compare products and figure out which one is worth your money? Here is the scoring system we use for every product on BargainTop10.
The 5-Point Scoring System
Every product we review gets scored on five dimensions, each rated 1-5:
1. Value (Performance Per Dollar)
A \ product that delivers 80 percent of a \ product's performance scores higher on Value than the expensive version. We measure what you actually get for your money, not just the price tag.
2. Build Quality
Materials, construction, and how the product feels in hand. Does it feel like it will last 6 months or 6 years? Are there obvious weak points? We look at hinges, seams, battery compartments, and stress points.
3. Ease of Use
Can you use this product without reading a 40-page manual? How intuitive is the setup? Does the companion app crash? We care about the daily experience, not just the feature list.
4. Performance
Does it actually do what it claims? We measure objectively where possible (temperature, speed, battery life) and subjectively where needed (sound quality, comfort, taste).
5. Longevity
How well does it hold up over time? We test products for weeks or months before publishing. A product that works great on day 1 but degrades after 3 months gets a lower Longevity score.
Our Overall Rating
The overall star rating is the unweighted average of all 5 dimensions. We never round up. A 4.6 is a 4.6. We would rather be precise than flattering.
